CRANK IT UP

Crank it up

No trick. No nonsense. This is straight to the heart of the matter. 2crank.com doesn't guarantee instant success, but it promises - with the grace of the listening audience out there - due recognition of an artiste's work. Yes, we want you to get paid for your music!

When a listener downloads an artiste's music for a fee, part of the money goes to the artiste concerned. The process couldn't be simpler. But at the moment, it's your music that we thirst most because what use is there in conversation if a product doesn't exist. So write those songs, record 'em, give 'em the best sonic treatment possible and upload them now. Listeners out there are always looking for new music.

The indie music scene is what we are aligned to, seeing as how misleading the mainstream could seem at times. But damn, don't they make money! We'll save envy for another debate, though.

Think of 2crank.com as your one-stop centre for all things indie related. Yes, that means, once you've signed up as a member for free, you can post reviews, news bulletins, activities, participate in forums, have access to mail messaging, chatting, rate your favourite band, clasified adds… all that you'd expect from an indie site that believes in the philosophy, "By Indie. For Indie."

But the main bonus is, 2crank.com has a panel of professionals - led by renowned composer/arranger/producer Fauzi Marzuki - who will post comments, basically, evaluate an artiste's song. So, there will be guidance provided by the likes of Roslan Aziz, Johan Nawawi, Johari Teh, Adnan Abu Hassan, Azam Dungun, Jenny Chin and among others.

And there are no musical restrictions either … all genres of music are accepted. What's especially cool is, you get to listen to a sample of the music before you purchase it. Now that's true value for money.

If that's not enough, just to make things a little more exciting, concerts, competitions and clinics are also being planned. This is the place for your indie music fix, people!

Close up with Aizat

1. What are the most important ingredients in a good song, and please explain why you think so?
I think it’s just honesty. What really comes from your heart; whether you want to talk about your surroundings such as people, news, incidents, love, friends, grudges, crushes etc. At the end of the day, you want to perform your best, so, there is nothing better than singing what you believe in.

2. What are your lyrical subjects? People, places, incidents, emotions?
It could be anything that touches me physically and emotionally. That’s one of art’s many privileges ... and it’s limitless, too.

3. Who has inspired you the most where songwriting is concerned? What is it about them that you like?
People, my family, my friends, musicians, lyricists. It could be anyone who affects me positively.

4. Is songwriting a process where you sit down and think about what to write or does it come to you as a moment of inspiration? And how do you constantly make this work for you?
For me, it can come in both ways. Sometimes, it comes out of the blue and sometimes, the idea comes first, and from there, I’ll start working on it. I’m always expanding my knowledge through reading, networking, travelling and sometimes even day dreaming to keep the creative juices flowing!

5. What music are you into at the moment ... and why do you like it?
Currently, I’m listening to The Last Shadow Puppets, The Beatles, The Mars Volta, The Arctic Monkeys, Muse, The Killers, Jason Mraz, John Mayer, Komplot, Hujan, Keane, Coldplay, Auburn. Most of them are bands which make music unlike mine ... haha! I just feel that a singer/songwriter can sound like a band if he/she wants to. Again, that’s the beauty of art ... a sea of inspirers can do wonders.
